John Bonham 30th Anniversary

I meant to post this post a few weeks ago, (25 Sept) but well… better late than never ….

There are drummers and there are DRUMMERS. John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham was the latter. The anchor of the heaviest band ever to grace the stage, Led Zeppelin, and undoubtedly the best drummer in rock 'n' roll history, he died on this day 30 years ago. After a day of heavy drinking, he was put to bed at band member Jimmy Page's home and was found the next morning by his other bandmate, John Paul Jones. A sad day in rock history. When one thinks of this incident, Don McLean's song "American Pie" comes to mind because an aspect of music definitely died that day.

“Bonzo: The Groove Remains The Same," a tribute in honor of the legendary sticksman, is being held today, September 25, at the Key Club in Los Angeles, California. The program features a plethora of renowned drummers. Here’s a list of who’ll be attending:

Steve Adler (GUNS N’ ROSES, ADLER’S APPETITE) Bobby Blotzer (RATT)
Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER) Fred Coury (CINDERELLA)
Jimmy D'Anda (BULLETBOYS) James Kottak (SCORPIONS) Abe Laboriel (PAUL MCCARTNEY) Khurt Maier (SALTY DOG) Stephen Perkins (JANE'S ADDICTION) Chris Slade (THE FIRM, AC/DC)
Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, CHICKENFOOT) Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL) Joe Travers (ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, DURAN DURAN) Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO)
Zoe Bonham Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL)
Kenny Aronoff (JOHN COUGAR, JOHN FOGERTY) Frankie Banali (QUIET RIOT)

Jason Bonham’s set to kick off his own tribute to his dad, the Led Zeppelin Experience Tour, on October 8, 2010, in Canada. Long live the echoes of John Bonham's thunderous, primal beats
